Tis the season, tree fruits seem to be dropping all over town here. Now is the time for us urban cider makers to make the rounds around town. A friend and I spent the day driving around the hood looking for possible apple collecting locations. We collected around 80lbs of apples from 3 different trees, not sure what types but their profile was sweet to tart. Looking forward to getting these juiced. We are letting them “sweat” for a week to see if we cant get them to ripen up some more. We also found a great pear tree, that the owners gave us permission to collect off of. Looking forward to giving these a try for some perry. SWEET!!! Grab your ladders, Fruit Picker, and bucket and get collecting. Its a great way to spend the day with the kids. Mine did some picking but she would rather be the photographer. Here are some pictures of our day she took.
If you go remember to ask permission before picking. Most of the people we talked to were happy to have us pick some apples. A couple makes their own cider and really did not want to share much. You can always offer a bottle of cider in exchange that worked for us.
